“I cannot tell you how excited I am to be your head coach. Im highly motivated to build this program to national prominence.”

Mark Stoops

The impact of Mark Stoops as the new head coach at Kentucky has been both immediate and remarkable.

The announcement last November that the Florida State defensive coordinator was coming to Kentucky unleashed a torrent of enthusiasm. Wildcat fans have significantly increased season ticket purchases. They turned out in record numbers for the Blue/White Spring Game, as 50,831 fans filled Commonwealth Stadium -- sixth-most in the country this year and more than 30,000 above the previous best for a UK spring game.

Stoops hired a set of hungry, relentless coaches, averaging under 38 years of age, who combine intensity and a history of success. The staff finished the 2013 recruiting class with a rush, securing 14 commitments in the final two months and moving UK's national recruiting ranking from the 60s to as high as No. 29.

On the field, Stoops is known for turning around defensive performance. At Florida State, he inherited a unit ranked 108th in the nation in total defense and improved it to second in the country within three years. Prior to FSU, he took Arizona's defense from 109th in the country to a top-25 ranking by the time he left.

  • Embrace the process
  • It’s all about recruiting, developing the players you have, developing them as total people
  • Doing things right
  • Building your program
  • Lay the foundation

Although only the beginning, Stoops’ progress in his first year has been both immediate and impressive as he strives to build the Wildcats into a national power.
